Personal Strengths: eNthusiastic, creative, passionate
My innate gift is being able to ignite creativity, in myself and in the teams I work with. I am able to move from creating to innovating by awakening the team to unique or novel understanding of the long standing complex issues or barriers. I have a playful imagination backed up with a lot of experience with real world technical issues.
This talent works well even when there is not a creative task at hand but just a sticky situation as my creative, relational mind frame gives me the right perspective to facilitate teams through contentious topics, discussions and situations.
But it’s not all just hugs and kumbaya. As you can see, I have a lot of background in engineering and systems analysis. This allows me to converse well with tough engineering teams and to bring a certain statistical or pragmatic rigor to non-technical teams. I’m quick to do rule of thumb statistical thinking so that I can help the team to validate or invalidate those statements that sound like “this never happens” or “this always happens.”
These talents help me to deliver for you facilitating that is caring but robust, to encourage your team to reach outside of their usual thought processes, to design and conduct clever learning scenarios that accelerate true learning, and to provide your leadership teams with guidance that promotes strategic visioning and planning.
As you can see, I am also adept at holding up a pen and, yes, I know how to use it.
Trying to prove that I’m accomplished at what I do so that I’ll seem reputable to you:
- Highly acclaimed (or at least, loudly applauded) presenter at Knowledge Management and Quality Management conferences
- Published author on topics around creativity and process improvement…and a plethora of unpublished stuff
- Consultant for the US Navy in what are now proven approaches to improving naval maintenance; while I was the idea guy, there are hundreds of hard working patriots that have made this happen for the US taxpayers.
- Developed and provided knowledge management solutions to address retiring baby boomers (put simply, helped organizations keep the knowledge in even after the person left); a knowledge map and assessment tool (it was pretty cool); a unique set of expertise nurturement (yes, I made that word up, but it gets my point across) tactics that received corporate and industry recognition.
- Project manager/Project Engineer for complex marine systems for both domestic and international locations.
- Designed and delivered education or training in areas ranging from Six Sigma to Project Team Development to Myers Briggs.
Proof that I might know something:
- BS in Marine Engineering, US Merchant Marine Academy
- MS in Industrial Engineering, University of Pittsburgh
- Professional Engineer
(a bit of a caveat here: while having all the paper, certs and experience, I seem to fall outside the box of engineering personalities, which sort of explains why I do what I do)
- ASQ Certified Manager of Organizational Excellence
- ASQ Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
(If this doesn’t impress you, then I’m out of luck.)
I was blessed to be raised by two incredible parents whom I love and respect to this day. I got to marry the girl of my dreams, and Diana is still my bride, my best friend forever, and my favorite date… and she’s also the President of eNthusaProve. Diana and I were blessed with three children whom we just absolutely enjoyed getting to help them grow, and each of them are now pursuing their dreams…it doesn’t get better than that. We are also blessed to have a young lady whom we consider a daughter who lives in Germany pursuing her dream also. We live just south of Pittsburgh, though we grew up along the I-95 corridor between Philadelphia and Wilmington. We kayak, bike, hike, teach little kids fun things like how to make apple cider, help with Scouts, and try to live each day celebrating the gift that it is. We also try to maximize our time visiting our grown children and enjoying as many giggles as possible with our granddaughters.
